Every year, fireworks displays dazzle audiences at Hollywood movie productions, the Super Bowl, and Disneyland. And now, the experts behind these exhibits will converge on Lake Havasu City for this year's Winter Blast event.
The Western Pyrotechnics Association's annual Winter Blast Pyrotechnics Show got an early start this year as the organization celebrates 35 years of Winter Blast at Havasu 95 Speedway. The first shells were fired over SARA Park on Wednesday, with more expected over the weekend.
Approximately 700 WPA members will participate in this year's event, which will feature hundreds of fireworks displays over South Havasu from Thursday through Sunday. Additionally, although the event is recognized as a trade show for professional pyrotechnicians throughout the United States, spectators may view the event from his SARA Park, Havasu 95 Speedway grandstand seats, and other areas surrounding the event. can.
“(WPA) is providing entertainment that everyone loves,” Chip Ciroski, WPA liaison with the City of Lake Havasu, said this week. “Is there anyone who doesn't like fireworks?”
Siroski said WPA members will undergo daily training during the event to receive the latest guidance on construction and safety practices when handling fireworks. Then, once the sun goes down, experts from across the country will operate their aircraft in aerial displays until 10 p.m. each night of the event.
“This is a chance to see exhibits that you wouldn't normally see in your hometown,” Shirosky said. “I think all residents have come to enjoy this event. It is always a great success, with space in the grandstand seating for thousands of people and over 300 motorhomes registered to take part.”
And, along with the International Jet Sports Boating Association's World Finals, Winter Blast is one of Havasu's longest-running events.
“This is a huge benefit for tourism,” Shirosky said. “Event attendees stay in hotels and shop at local businesses throughout his four days of the event, and that money grows in a variety of ways.”
Organizers say Thursday's fireworks display will be the smallest, but admission will be free. The event's biggest fireworks show is scheduled to take place on Saturday, but organizers say all remaining fireworks must be used on Sunday night. If the night of the event is canceled due to inclement weather, it could provide a great show in its own right. .
Parking for the event will be available starting Thursday for $10 per day. Payment is by cash only. Grandstand seating also costs $10 per person per day and only cash is accepted.
Spectators will not be allowed to leave or re-enter the venue and no refunds will be given. Pets, firearms, coolers, and outdoor alcohol are prohibited.
Parking for the event will open at 3 p.m., with the exception of Saturday noon parking. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early as parking spaces are expected to fill up quickly.
