Blistering start at the plate for Aldrete for Giants Double-A affiliate – Monterey Herald

After spending the spring at the San Francisco Giants’ parent club, Monterey High School graduate Carter Aldorite got off to a hot start at the organization’s Double-A affiliate plate in Richmond.

Aldrite, 25, is batting .353 with a team-leading two homers and eight RBIs in Richmond’s first 10 games. He also has a .439 on-base percentage and five walks.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 205-pound former Monterey High shortstop is listed as Richmond’s third baseman, but played as first baseman in spring training for the San Francisco Giants.

During his four-year minor league career, Aldrite has also played as a second baseman and corner outfielder.

A 2019 Round 15 pick from Arizona State University, Aldrite had 36 homers and 151 RBIs in at least 845 plate appearances, along with a .260 career average in the minor leagues.

Aldrete quarterbacked Monterey in the postseason as a sophomore and junior, starting all four years on the baseball team and winning all-county honors twice.

Riggenbach, Martinez Lead Portland State to Title

Logan Riggenbach and Natalia Martinez are among the team leaders in extra-base hits for the Portland State Softball team this year.

After leading the team in batting average and runs batted in and finishing second in home runs, Riggenbach was second in slugging with 10, while Martinez had a career-high eight in slugging.

A member of The Herald’s all-county volleyball and softball teams at the University of Notre Dame, Riggenbach has appeared in 33 games for Portland State University, batting .310 with one home run and 14 RBIs.

The 5-foot-10-inch junior outfielder was third with 11 walks, scored 19 runs, and had a .398 on-base percentage. She was also flawless in the outfield with 52 chances without errors.

Martinez started 18 games at third base for the Vikings, hitting 3 homers with 8 RBIs. Her eight of her 13 hits ended in extra bases.

The sophomore slugger has hit in four of his last five starts and is batting .248. Martinez has also scored 10 runs at Portland State, and he’s 6-3 in the Big Sky Conference.

Bering sizzling on the plate

Junior outfielder John John Belling posted a college career-best .302 for the Santa Clara baseball team, 85 points higher than last year.

The Parma product, which recently ranked sixth in the standings, walked 12, scored 12 and had a .388 on-base percentage in 29 games for the Broncos.

A former countywide football and baseball player, Belling’s 32 hits this season have been extra-base hits. He hit a home run and has 14 RBIs.

Belling played in 47 games for Santa Clara last year, stealing a team-high 19 and walking a team-high 26. He made only three errors out of his 162 chances in his three seasons.

Julian has the best run of his career

Freshman long-distance ace Michael Julian rounded up his best race of the season in the 5,000 meters for the UC San Diego Athletics team, finishing fifth at the invitational at UC Irvine with a time of 14:52.27.

Julian, who won the Central Coast section 3,200m title at York School last year and finished seventh in the state, also ran cross-country with the Tritons in the fall.

Carmel alum Lauren Pritchard recorded 5’3 1/2″ in the high jump at the Triton Invitational and placed second overall in the women’s division at UC San Diego.

Pritchard has a career-best 5-5 3/4 and finished second at last year’s Invitational.

Pritchard qualified for the CIF State Championships as a sophomore and senior year student in Carmel’s high jump, finishing in the top five at the 2021 CIF State Athletics Championships.

Sanchez Elementary School Wins Golf Championship

Jesse G. Sanchez Elementary School of Salinas joined forces to win the Elementary Golf Championship at Crazy Horse Ranch in Salinas.

After six weeks of qualifying rounds at Twin Creek Golf Course, a group of boys and girls joined forces to take home the title and win the event by 27 shots.

The league featured 12 teams, narrowed down to the final four teams for the championship event.

The squad includes Manuel Meza, Brian Garcia, Luis Reyes, Aaliyah Mancera, Freddy Solis, Christian Lopez, Darce Cruz, Alex Ramirez, Junior Cortez, Aylin Moreno, Uriel Cabello and Emma. It was Hernandez.

Johnson-Tony Football Camp

The 11th Annual Johnson-Tony Football Camp will open to participants ages 9-14 at Monterey Peninsula College June 27-30 and for participants ages 15-17 at Rabobank Stadium in Salinas July 25-28. will be held for

The Chris Jackson Sports Academy is hosting a Summer Bash Basketball Tournament for boys and girls in grades 3-12 June 10-11.

Stevenson Sports Camp

Stephenson runs a series of sports camps throughout the summer for participants in grades 5 through 12. Sports include basketball, swimming, women’s volleyball, tennis, field hockey, soccer, lacrosse and water polo.

Additionally, quarterback and wide receiver camps and a coeducational pole vault camp for grades 6 through 12 are held in July.
