This large-scale solar facility is part of a proposed 1 GW project portfolio to be built on the BLM site in Arizona.
The Bureau of Land Management will hold two public meetings for public comment on the Jove Solar Project, a proposed 600 MWac utility-scale solar project in southern La Paz County, Arizona.
Two meetings will be held:
- It takes place on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, from 5-7 PM at Tonopah Valley High School in Tonopah, Arizona.
- Virtual online meeting on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 3:30-4:30 PM (*link to register for online meeting will be provided soon on the ePlanning website below)
174 Power Global, an affiliate of Hanwha Energy USA Holdings, has applied for a 30-year right-of-way grant to construct and operate a utility-scale solar project on state land approximately 85 miles west of Phoenix. bottom. The project developer said the project was known as Taurus Solar. He submitted a right-of-way application in October 2019 and later renamed the project in August 2022.
The Jove Solar Project will be located on 3,495 acres of public land and 38 acres of La Paz County land managed by BLM. The generating facility will be connected to the regional transmission system via the planned and approved Cielo Azul 500 kV switchyard and the pending construction Ten West Link 500 kV transmission line.
The location of the solar project was selected based on a number of factors, notably the region’s frequent sunny weather, high solar resource, and access to power transmission.

On December 7, 2022, the BLM Yuma field office issued a notice of intent to prepare an environmental impact statement to analyze the potential environmental impacts of Jove Solar. This notice initiated formal scoping and two-year mineral segregation.
To advance clean energy goals, BLM provides sites for the environmentally sound development of renewable energy on public lands. These efforts build on the Biden-Harris administration’s goal of a carbon-polluting power sector by 2035 and his plan to allow 25 GW of solar, wind and geothermal production on public lands by 2025. We support Congress’ directives in the 2020 Energy Act.
Project information, such as maps and online commenting tools, includes project ePlanning website.
Written comments will be accepted by email until February 1st. BLM_AZ_CRD_Solar@blm.gov Or via the ePlanning website link above. Mail to: BLM Yuma Field Office, Attn: Jove Solar EIS – Public Comment, 7341 E 30th St., Suite A, Yuma, AZ 85365-6525
December 5th BLM announced a new plan BLM aims to improve and accelerate renewable energy development in the Southwest region as it aims to deploy 25 GWac of capacity by 2025. BLM also said it will begin a review of his three facilities in Arizona totaling 1 GWac, including Jove Solar (600 MWac).
BLM said it is expanding its “programmatic” process for transitioning renewable projects through a development process created in 2012.
Two other Arizona solar facilities –300 MWac pinion solar Maricopa County project owned by Avantus (formerly 8 Minute Solar Energy) and 300 MWac Elizabeth Solar Yuma County is in the early stages of development.
