Blondie drummer Klemburk passed away at the age of 70.
The band confirmed his death on Monday in a statement shared on Instagram.
“It’s a deep sadness to broadcast the news that my beloved friend and bandmate Clem Burke has passed away following my private battle with cancer,” they wrote. “Crem wasn’t just a drummer. He was Blondie’s heartbeat. His talent, energy and passion for music are unparalleled, and our contribution to sound and success is immeasurable.”
The Hall of Fame musicians have collaborated on albums with legendary artists such as Pete Townsend, Iggy Pop and Bob Dylan throughout his illustrious decades-long career.

The band paid tribute to Burke by sharing memories of how deeply he had an impact on their lives.
“Beyond his musicianship, Clem was a source of inspiration both on and off the stage,” they wrote.
“His vibrant spirit, infectious enthusiasm and solid work ethic touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”
Blondie celebrated Burke’s long list of accomplishments and outstanding contributions to the music industry.

“The influence of Clem was far beyond Blondie. In his self-declared “Rock and Roll Survivalist,” he collaborated with many iconic artists, including Eursmics, Ramones, Bob Dylan, Bob Geldof, Iggy Pop, Joan Jett and Nancy Sinatra. Hearts, slink vagabonds, and even go-gos,” they said.
“His influence and contribution spans decades and genres, leaving an indelible mark on every project he was part of.”

“His legacy will continue to live through the vast amount of music he has created and the countless lives he has touched,” his bandmates wrote.
