LAPAZ, Bolivia (AP) — Hospitals in the Santa Cruz region of eastern Bolivia struggled Wednesday to respond to a dengue outbreak that has killed at least 26 people.
This marks the largest outbreak of mosquito-borne illness since the COVID-19 pandemic. Most of the nearly 7,000 cases detected since January are in Santa Cruz, the most populous area of the United States, where two of the deadliest variants of the disease have been detected.
