Birmingham’s Local Company Expands with New Headquarters
Birmingham’s Lakeview district is seeing a significant addition with the new three-storey, 28,500-square-foot expansion of a local headquarters. This $18.9 million investment underscores the company’s ongoing dedication to its hometown, dating back to its founding in 1964. They’ve earned a reputation for delivering construction projects that often exceed expectations.
The new facilities are already contributing positively to the local economy, with 64 new jobs being created. The company is also on track to exceed its target of adding 85 positions at the headquarters within five years, achieving 75% of this goal already.
“I support our growth and our commitment to Birmingham, which has been our base since 1964,” mentioned CEO Rob Blalock. “We’re putting resources into a community that hosts 13 offices across eight states. It’s crucial for us to show our continued investment in our hometown.”
This expansion received backing from Birmingham’s city officials, Jefferson County, and the state of Alabama. State representatives believe the project is an excellent example of how businesses can drive both local and national advancement. “We’re a fantastic place for development,” stated Ellen McNair from the Alabama Department of Commerce. “This move doesn’t only illustrate the company’s future vision and investment in its workforce, but it also bolsters Birmingham’s standing as a center for talent, innovation, and opportunity within the construction sector.”
The construction work was handled by Pylon Building Group, a subsidiary of the main company, which got off the ground in 2023. This project marked a significant step for the relatively new firm.
“We appreciate the chance to work on this vital project for Brasfield & Gorrie,” said Pylon President Reggie Tober. “Our team is sharpening its abilities as we look to grow independently. Working on a busy campus for our skilled clients is an invaluable experience, and we are enthusiastic about what lies ahead.”
Currently, Brasfield & Gorrie employs about 1,400 individuals at its Birmingham headquarters, and more than 4,100 nationwide. In 2024, the company reported revenues of $6.4 billion, ranking as the 22nd largest contractor on the Engineering News Record’s Top 400 list.
The company operates in eight states, executing a diverse array of projects throughout Alabama, including a new biotechnology center for Southern Research, renovations at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, a conservation stadium, several Airbus facilities, HudsonAlpha Discovery Life Sciences locations, and other initiatives across the U.S. division.
Alongside its physical expansion, Brasfield & Gorrie is enhancing its workforce development initiatives. A new 9,650-square-foot field training center has recently opened near Irondale, Birmingham. Constructed by Pylon, this facility will provide certified training programs and NCCER certifications to employees interested in upgrading their skills, regardless of their prior experience.
