Update: A suspected carjacker was killed Wednesday night after being run over by a semi-truck near Somerton.
Yuma Police say it all started this morning with a carjacking in Yuma County.
The suspect then unsuccessfully attempted to steal another vehicle near Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.
The suspect then went to Arizona Western College and stole another car in Kino’s parking lot.
Police said they found the suspect later that day but did not arrest him.
He then drove from Somerton through Yuma County and the Foothills back to the Yuma Palms Mall, where he stole another car.
It’s the car that hit the cicada at 3E Avenue and County 15th Street.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety confirmed that the suspect died in the accident.
UPDATE: Police are asking everyone to avoid this area as it will be on lockdown.
Update: The chase ended just a short time ago, Yuma Police say the suspect is no longer fleeing and a clash occurred during the chase at 3E Avenue and County 15th Street.
UPDATE: Yuma Police have confirmed they are pursuing a suspect who carjacked a faculty member at gunpoint on the AWC campus Wednesday morning.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Arizona Western College (AWC) confirmed a gunpoint victim was carjacked on campus Wednesday morning.
The carjacking occurred in Kino’s parking lot, the university said. They say thankfully no harm was done to the victim.
The suspect left campus in a stolen car. AWC Police and Yuma Police Department are investigating.
They say there is no active threat to the university campus.
The victim is a female teacher on her first day.
