The race for the Republican nomination for Alabama's 2nd Congressional District is a fierce primary race that also included current state Sen. Greg Albritton (R-Atmore), and former state Sen. Dick Brewbaker of Pike Road. It heads to a runoff between Montgomery State's Attorney Caroleen Dobson. .

When votes were counted Tuesday night, Mr. Brewbaker led with 39% of the vote, followed by Mr. Dobson with 26.46%, narrowly beating Mr. Albritton's 25.34%, out of about 57,000 eligible voters. Represented Republican voters.

The Republican candidate will be decided in a runoff election on April 16th.

The newly drawn 2nd Congressional District includes 48.7% of the black voting-age population, intended to make the eventual Democratic nominee more competitive.

Brewbaker or Dobson will be appointed by the Obama administration to run alongside House Minority Leader and State Rep. Anthony Daniels (D-Huntsville) or Mobile Roots' Shomali Figures in the November 2024 general election. He will face one of the former members of Congress.

Mr. Brewbaker is a former teacher and longtime CEO of Brewbaker Motors, a family-owned car dealership in Montgomery. He served two terms in the Alabama House of Representatives and then served in the state Senate from 2010 to 2018.

“I've been a lifelong resident of this district. Those who know me know that I always stand up for what's right and never allow myself to get caught up in the games and political theater of Washington,” Blue said. Baker said when announcing his campaign last year.
