Britt Hume appeared on Fox News on Wednesday to discuss who motivated the Democrats to try and get MS-13 member Kilmer Armando Abrego Garcia back to the US.
Maryland Democratic Sen. Chris Van Hollen traveled to San Salvador on Wednesday to raise concerns about Garcia’s deportation. The Salvadoran government refused him to enter the Mega prison facility. When featured in “Special Report with Brett Baier,” Hume said Democrats seem to be more responsive to pressure from their political foundations than broader public sentiments.
“What these Democrats think is that they see the mandate from the most activist members, resist, fight, fight, fight,” Hume told Bayer. “So they do whatever opportunity they can to fight, and I don’t know if they’re choosing them very wisely.”
Hume said he confused why Van Hollen was in a hurry to defend the Salvador man.

“Brett, it’s a bit of a mystery to me that Chris Van Hollen, who wants to run for president, goes to El Salvador and tries to put an illegal Salvador man in the United States into prison,” Hume said. “Now the court is dealing with the question of whether he should be placed there and whether he should be brought back for justice.”
Hume said the Trump administration has released details suggesting that Garcia was not only a member of the gang, but also beat his wife. (Related: Brithume explains why the Supreme Court has done it as much as possible regarding the alleged MS-13 members of El Salvador.)
“It’s hard to imagine that many Americans would see this guy and think he’s a sympathetic victim. The administration has provided a lot of information about the possibility that he may be a member of the gang.
The Trump administration said it is not obligated to return Garcia. In a court application, the Justice Department said federal courts cannot invade foreign policy, including decisions on Garcia’s repatriation and detention. Immigration and customs enforcement arrested Garcia in March and quickly deported him to El Salvador. Authorities first identified him as an MS-13 associate following 2019 Maryland arrests and hints from confidential informants.
