Brody Roa Readies for Saturday’s Sokola Shootout at Perris Auto Speedway

A week after racing teammate Tommy Dunkel at Imperial Valley Raceway, Brody Lore is gearing up for 20, one of Southern California’s longest-running sprint car races.th “Sokola Shootout” held annually at Perris Auto Speedway. In his first two drives in a car owned by Inland Rigging, Lore won the first two races of the 2023 USAC/CRA schedule at Cocopa Speedway in Brad Whitfield in January. He has his 14-point lead in the championship standings heading into Saturday’s race at his half-mile clay oval in the famous Riverside County, located 77 miles east of Los Angeles. In addition to his two wins in the Cocopah main, he won his one of his two heats over the weekend on his new DRC chassis.

At last year’s Sokola Shootout, Roa dominated the 10-lap heat race. In the 30-lap main event he started 7th and finished 6th.

Last week’s race at Imperial during the California Midwinter Fair drew strong cars and a great crowd. The successful event was a revival of what was an annual tradition that had lasted for decades when the original his CRA raced during the fair. It was Roa’s first race at PAS. Dunkel, who lives in Murrieta, entered the trade fair track last October and finished seventh.

The race was an open comp show. So both the 360 ​​and 410 were competing together. Dunkel was in a brand new DRC and Lore was driving a Maxim. Both were powered by his Shaver 360.

“It was my first time driving with the new DRC chassis,” Dunkel said of his car at Imperial. “Thanks to the new chassis and Brett & Brody Lore helping me with set-up and driving advice it was very helpful. The big night at Imperial was Saturday. In front of an enthusiastic crowd, sprint cars competed for the winner’s $5000.00 salary. The first job of the night was the heat race. The top five from each heat went straight to the Main Event. As luck would have it, Dunkel and Lore were in the same heat. Dunkel managed to hold off the sixth-placed driver to secure the final transfer spot to the A-main. The driver he stopped was Roar.

While Dunkel was locked in the A main, Roa had to go to the B to get a ticket to take a shot at the winner’s loot. He gave a perfect performance on B and won the race.

In the main Lore had to start 16th, outside row #8.It was right behind new teammate Dunkel, who came from 14thDespite competing with the beefy 410, the Roa had a mission. The 2019 USAC Southwest Sprint Car Series champion was racing through the field. “I was ninth with three cars remaining and my steering gear failed,” lamented Dunkel. “Both of our nights ended badly. I had a lot of fun racing with them and they have another show in October and we will be back. We can show better results.”

Lore will be back in action on Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway and next Friday at Hanford’s Kings Speedway. Then, on April 1st, head to Arizona’s Mojave Valley.stWith Dunkel making his USAC/CRA debut, the night will be spent working on two cars from Inland Rigging.
