Brody Roar’s successful 2023 season was on track like a fine-tuned machine last Saturday night when he took home his third straight USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series Main Event at Mojave Valley Raceway. I kept going. In addition to Roa, car owner and teammate Tommy Dunkel competed in his USAC/CRA main his event for the first time, placing 11th.th.
Lore, who lives in Garden Grove, Calif., had a slightly easier time than his previous two wins. These wins took place at Kings Speedway and Kern County Raceway Park on April 22nd.nd and 29eye, Both were hard fought. Last Saturday at his Arizona oval on the 1/3 mile bank, the veteran driver took the lead on his fourth lap and took a convincing win.
The Inland Rigging duo hit the track in qualifying, with Roa setting the fastest time of the night with a lap of 14.275. Living in Menifee, California, Dunkel was 14 years old when he entered his second USAC/CRA race.th Fastest when he stopped the clock at 16.865.
After winning the first Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award for 2023, Roa nearly dominated the show. Between qualifying and the main event, he appeared in the first 10 heat races of the night. Starting sixth, he quickly moved up to his second position. After the yellow on lap 6, he briefly led the race twice. At the finish he charged on the inside and nearly took the lead, but lost by less than half the commander’s margin.
Shortly after Roa’s heat race, Dunkel rolled onto the track in a white #17 with a 360 to enter his second USAC/CRA heat. The Menifee, California resident ended up battling for fifth place and temporarily put his car in that position. In the end he was placed in the same position as the first.
With a large crowd on a very pleasant Arizona spring night, Roa started the 30-lap main event in 6th place and Dunkel started the race in 13th.thRoa moved into third place at the end of the first circuit and took full control of the spot on the second lap. He took second place on the next lap and moved into the lead on lap four entering Turn 1. From that point on, “The Pride of Garden Grove” dominated the rest of the race.
Roa extended his lead to 1/2 on lap nine. Two laps later, he was caught in lapped traffic. Looking perfect through the rapper, he had a full straight lead at 20.th On the 22nd lap, he lapped the 6th place machine. The only thing that stopped him from lapping the top five was the yellow flag on lap 24.th go around. His big lead was lost due to the restart, but when the green flag waved again he pulled away from the field to win his fifth main of the year in a semi straight line.
from 13:00th, Dunkel had many pack races ahead of him. As usual, he avoided confusion and pushed forward from the first starting point. at the end of 30th Lap he crossed the line 11th In a field of 16 cars. He’s been running his limited USAC/CRA schedule and isn’t going to shoot for it, but Dunkel has earned Rookie of the Year points in his rankings, where he ranks fourth.
“When I parked the car after packing the wheels, I was watching how they were preparing the track and I thought it was going to work,” said the happy winner. “It was slick, racy and dusty. That’s how a sprint car track should be,” he told the crowd with gratitude when asked if it was a track that had been in the past.
“Maybe I was a little timid at the end. That’s enough to make it work.So I tried not to miss 4 exits, get off at one and not slide down there.This car is incredible.Our 1 I’m thrilled with how the year has gone so far we seem to have the right calls all night and this DRC chassis makes it easy we change nothing all night No. Just show the bass line and do it, maybe put a little bit here, put a little bit there and call it a day… it goes around the track very well.”

While Lore is on hiatus this week, Dunkel will be back for the USAC West Coast Series at Ventura Raceway this Saturday. It’s the first time he’s back on his 1/5 mile beachside oval since April 8th.th When leading every lap in both the 10-lap heat race and the 30-lap VRA Main Event.
For fans wanting to see if Dunkel can double in Ventura on Saturday, the spectator gates will open at 3pm and the first race will take place at 5:30pm. Adult tickets are $22.00.
