Brody Roa Teams With Tommy and Christy Dunkel for the 2023 Sprint Car Season

When the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars Series turns 24th The season of racing takes place at Brad Whitfield’s Cocopa Speedway on Friday and Saturday, January 27.th and 28th, longtime fans will be faced with a big surprise. FIRST GREEN When his flag is hoisted to start a new campaign, veteran racer Brody Lore isn’t riding his familiar bright green #91R. For 2023, Roa’s BR Performance will join forces with Tom and Christy Dunkel to pilot the white #17R throughout the year.

Lore, who turns 32 on Wednesday last year, was a freelancer during the season. The comfortable driver has started his 37 races at 18 different tracks in 4 different states. He competed in five different types of cars for seven different licensing bodies. As of 2023, his plans include his USAC/CRA schedule of all 27 races and his four open competition races at Imperial Valley his raceway. It could also start in the USAC/West Coast Sprint Car Series. Initially Lore intended to race his car in his CRA as usual. And he was slated to race as Dunkel’s teammate in the West Coast Series.

“About a week and a half ago, I went to dinner to talk about the 360 race I was going to run for them,” Lore said Sunday night. “I threw something at them about doing something with the 410. He and Christie came back and talked about it. I now have what I used to have I will be running the Tom & Christy Dunkel/Inland Rigging/BR Performance Race Team this year I bought a new DRC 2 weeks ago or less Got it finished last wednesday night I’m going to light it up tomorrow I sold the eagles and put the trailer up for sale Kind of a big change Tom, Christy, running the new #17R I am very excited to represent Inland Rigging.”

“Man, this is amazing,” said Tommy Dunkel, the car owner who is as excited as Roa. “Just hearing you out loud for the first time gives me a little goosebumps. It’s been huge to be a part of our capabilities leading up to this year. They are very good and nice guys in the pits but they swing every weekend that’s kind of my style I like to show up and try to win and get great equipment “Those guys are at the top of their league. Teaming them up is a really big deal for me. We’re really excited about it.”

“This opportunity was very well presented,” Dunkel continued. “Brody has always been a wonderful person to work with. Zach (Zach Bozanich’s crew chief), and that entire camp, is a great group of guys. They’re competitive and a force to be reckoned with every Saturday night. ”

Until now, the offseason has been anything but normal for Lore and his team. In late December, his fans and fellow competitors noticed that his equipment was for sale. There were questions about whether the Garden Grove, Calif., racing star would hang up his helmet. Fortunately, he is back and ready for another successful season.

“We sold the chassis, body and rollers,” said the fan-friendly driver. “We put all of the chassis we sold together and put together a new DRC. We basically keep everything as a spare. With everything that came back to the shop except the stuff, I have enough to make 6 cars. There are small components that I’ve been hiding in that shop for probably 10 years.I haven’t sold them all yet. I have no doubt that.”

The fact that he would switch from an Eagle chassis to a DRC would surprise a lot of people. In 2022 he did not join his full USAC/CRA schedule, but Roar led the Eagle to two wins and his six top-five finishes. And despite missing a good number of races, he finished sixth in the championship points standings.

“I’ve never driven a DRC before,” confessed Roa. “Honestly, right now it seems like a car where everyone is doing something other than wings. I called Ronnie Gardner who works there. I got a call from Joe Devin, who builds DRC, and we probably talked on the phone for at least half an hour, and that was pretty cool, and that probably helped the decision. to get back to being where we all have our notebooks we all have our parts (for the DRC) I think at this point we know what we’re doing but really If you get lost, at least you have someone to bounce your ideas off of.”

As always, Roa continues to use the powerful shaver engine.

As usual, the driver known as ‘The Pride of Garden Grove’ is happy to talk to car owners who want his services when his job at the local race is off (Roa’s 2023 The schedule for the year is listed below). .

Roa is very appreciative and would like to thank his sponsor HD Industries for their dedicated support of his #91R car over the years.

“HD has done a lot for us over the last decade,” says Roa. “They have been with the car for many years and have been a huge part of our program. Without them, we would not have been as successful as we are. Mike, Jim , I will always be grateful to HD.”

“I would also like to thank my family and friends who are part of our racing efforts,” Lore said. “My family Taylor and Addison, my parents Brett and Eden, Uncle B, Joe, Zack, Tyler, Tracy, and Tom, Christie, and Eva are all looking forward to joining her Dunkel and family team.”

Racing on Friday and Saturday at Cocopa Speedway (aka ‘the diamond in the desert’) will be a full program including qualifiers, heats and the main event. For fans wanting to attend this weekend’s doubleheader, spectator gates open at 4:00pm each day, and hot laps start at 5:30pm. Qualifying and racing will follow.
