On Tuesday, June 25, 2013, something extraordinary happened in the Texas Senate. The Texas Democrats had been defeated by extremist pro-abortion positions in both elections and legislation, making a last-ditch effort to block a popular anti-abortion bill.
Their putative tool was filibustering by then-state Senator Wendy Davis, but their real weapon would become frighteningly familiar in American civil society over the next decade. The left was never content to trust the process and elections.again brought the mob.
The mob eventually succeeded, even though stubborn persuasion and arguments were unsuccessful. Those of us who were in public in Texas at the time will never forget it. The constitutional (and constitutionally elected) legislative body was literally yelled at by an angry mob. The bill failed because the Texas Senate was under attack and crippled. Sure, the Left couldn’t win the Texas election, but it could growl, shriek, intimidate, and confuse in pursuing the will of the minority. So much for democratic autonomy.
Because the U.S. Constitution obligates the federal government to ensure a republican form of government for the states (and also guarantees protection from “domestic violence”), we believe mob shutdowns of state legislatures defeat that purpose. There may be people. and promote federal action to protect the autonomy of the people. But Washington, D.C., has long failed to defend Texas’ freedom at the border or in the Capitol.
As the mob visibly stifles normal rule, and therefore normal freedom, in Solitary State, President Obama only encourages them in his tweets. “Something special is happening in Austin tonight.” commented It was clear that he enjoyed the sympathy of President Barack Obama and his administration. He was not an elected representative of the people, but a mob howling desperately to stop their business.

It wasn’t just the then-President of the United States sending encouragement to the mob that shut down the Texas Senate. Left-wing journalists, including Texas Monthly’s Erika Grieder at the time, were also present, digitally attacking the mob.
“Please continue to support everyone.” tweeted When it became clear that the mob’s taunting of Congress was working, Mr. Grieder said, “Turn the courtesy down and Texas up!”

That dark day for American democracy, whose 10th anniversary went largely unnoticed only a few weeks ago, was not the first in modern times. Just two years ago, Wisconsin also had left-wing mobs occupying the state capitol after failing to win elections and persuade the public. Since then, leftist violence in public squares has become more frequent and dangerous.
Fast forward to 2020 and the country has been ravaged by violence disguised as “Black Lives Matter” and again by insurrection (but in reality serves the same leftists responsible for all the rest). are doing). And we saw the same thing. A pattern of enthusiastic support from left-wing leaders and their media associates. The point of remembering all this is not to retaliate for its own sake. We need to remember this mainly because he is for two reasons.
