Brooke Shields' daughter says that when she watched her mother's documentary, she, like the rest of the world, learned the deeply shocking details of her mother's alleged sexual assault.

Shields' youngest daughter, Greer, had no idea her mother said she had been sexually abused until she watched Shields' 2023 documentary “Pretty Baby,” one media outlet reported. Interview Grier was quoted in the August 30 issue of People magazine as admitting that she was so shocked she couldn't watch the whole thing until the end.

The documentary touches on Shields' career and personal life both on and off camera, and the famous model and actress admitted to the media that she didn't prepare her youngest daughter for the documentary's release.

“Part of being a mother is learning from your children,” Shields told People magazine in an interview that was also joined by her daughters Rowan, 21, and Greer, 21 and 18.

The documentary was the first time she spoke publicly about being sexually assaulted by famous and powerful people in Hollywood, and to this day she has not revealed the names of her alleged assailants.

Shields said the assault happened when she was in her 20s. The actress told the outlet she never expected Greer to find out such tidbits of information about her mother.

“I didn't prepare her,” Shields admitted to the outlet.

“It was a misunderstanding. I explained that it was an exploration of female sexual expression in my industry, but I naively thought that because we have very solid, healthy, pretty normal lives and I'm not completely broken, she would say, 'Wow, you've been through so much, but look where we are now,'” she told People magazine.

This shocking news affected Greer deeply.

“I was learning things at the same time the world was learning, and I just took it so much more deeply and so personally,” she was quoted as saying. “I just couldn't get over it.”

“I said to her, 'But it's a happy ending,' and she said, 'I can't ever allow myself to think that anything bad happened to you,'” Shields told People magazine.

“She felt helpless. As mothers, we make mistakes and we make assumptions sometimes,” she acknowledged in the interview.
