Auburn men's basketball head coach Bruce Pearl is outspoken about his geopolitical opinions, particularly as it relates to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vermont) also spoke out against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the United States “cannot continue to fund Prime Minister Netanyahu's war against the Palestinian people.” However, Mr. Pearl strongly opposed this statement. .
For the sake of the Palestinian people and our own standing in the world, we must not provide more dollars to Netanyahu's war machine. pic.twitter.com/R24NIX89pC

How would senators react if 1,200 innocent people were raped and tortured to death in Vermont on October 7th, and more than 200 were kidnapped and held in tunnels in Canada? Should we call this the Sanders War? Will we call for a ceasefire… https://t.co/2kAv4TN25H

Pearl's full statement is below.
“If 1,200 innocent people were raped and tortured to death in Vermont on October 7th by Canadian terrorists, and now more than 200 people have been kidnapped and held in tunnels, what would the senator say? Will they react?” Are we going to call this the Sanders War? Will we demand a ceasefire before these men, women, children, and infants can safely return to Vermont? Hypothetically again, do we worry more about the Canadians who elected these terrorists and remained silent while building these war tunnels under their homes, schools, and hospitals, or? Do you worry about the abductees and their families? Have you forgotten what you, as a Jew, swore you would never do again? Israel must protect itself and deter its enemies from attacking it again. Are you actually equating Israel's response in the Gaza Strip to Putin's attack on Ukraine? Do you think our place in the world is at stake? What about our position as every nation's greatest ally and friend? Or should China, Russia and Iran have that title? I challenge you to a debate on Israel. I'm not a politician or an expert on the Middle East, but I know enough about the Bible and I know the truth. And I'm tired of you politicians throwing everything around! God bless US Senator Sanders and Israel Chai. ”
Pearl repeatedly described Hamas' attacks on Israel as “genocide” and “the world's greatest genocide since the Holocaust.”
