This week, two staff members from the Israeli embassy tragically lost their lives to pro-Palestinian assailants after leaving an event at the Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.
The victims, identified as Yaron Lisinsky and Sarah Milgrim, were reportedly set to become engaged soon before this senseless act took their lives.
Shortly after the news broke, a 31-year-old man named Elias Rodriguez from Chicago was taken into custody.
Auburn men’s basketball coach, Bruce Pearl, who has often spoken out about the conflict between Israel and Palestine, has emerged as a strong voice in support of Israel amidst this ongoing situation.
Rodriguez, it seems, garnered support from groups that back Palestine, and he expressed some confusion about Pearl’s statements on social media.
Pearl remarked, “These people are sick and demonic,” in reaction to reports detailing how the attack was celebrated by certain Palestinian factions. He pointed out how two young Israelis were tragically killed, and noted how such acts seemed to be hailed by jihadist groups.
Last month, Pearl took on the role of president of the American Association of Israel Education, consistently using his platform to address topics he finds significant.
This stance probably won’t change soon, especially after the recent tragedy in Washington.
