Five suspects reportedly attacked former New York Governor David Paterson and his son-in-law as they were walking their dog in Manhattan late Friday.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) alerted the public to a group assault that occurred after an altercation in front of a commercial building around 8:35 p.m., but did not identify either the victim or the suspect.

According to the newspaper, Patterson and Sliwa were walking down the street when they encountered the teenage suspects who were climbing the fire escape on the Upper East Side and exchanged words with them. Mr Patterson suffered injuries to his face and head, and Mr Sliwa appeared to suffer injuries to his face. Paramedics took both men to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where they were listed in stable condition, police said.

According to Sliwa, the two victims were walking their dogs almost every night. Sliwa added that the victims fought against a “group of thugs”.
“David Patterson is recovering from his injuries,” Sliwa said. “Anthony’s wound is a little more serious, but he has…a split lip and is undergoing a series of precautionary x-rays.”
Sliwa told the Post that Patterson, who is visually impaired, “had bruises and bruising, but nothing serious,” while Anthony was examined for a possible concussion. He added that he was “proud” of the response.
