Business incubator opens in Sylacauga to assist rural entrepreneurs

Gener8Tor Launches Accelerator Program in Alabama

On Thursday, the venture capital firm Gener8Tor, which is nationally recognized, unveiled its latest accelerator program based in Alabama. Titled Galfa Earth, this initiative is a collaboration with East Alabama’s Countryside Innovation and Training Hub and the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce. The application process is currently open for a no-cost, four-week program aimed at helping entrepreneurs at the idea stage develop their concepts into viable businesses.

Set to begin on October 28th, Galfa Earth is Gener8Tor’s inaugural Galfa program in Alabama and welcomes residents from all backgrounds, educational levels, and industries. Taking place in Silakauga, the program will occur twice a year, targeting aspiring founders from Alabama.

Those interested should complete the application form by Sunday, October 19th. Gener8Tor is also seeking to fill a lead director position for Galfa Earth, with plans to finalize the hire by September. Additional details about the role can be found online.

“By making Galfa accessible to everyone in Alabama, we are actively ensuring that innovation is inclusive, regardless of an individual’s background or location,” a spokesperson noted. “Alongside the recently launched Alabama Forestry Accelerator in Dothan, Galfa Earth reinforces our commitment to fostering entrepreneurial ecosystems in areas that are frequently overlooked but rich in potential.”

This launch emphasizes Alabama’s status as a key state for Gener8Tor, which has ongoing programs in cities like Birmingham, Mobile, Huntsville, Dothan, and now Silakauga. Since entering the state, Gener8Tor has provided support to nearly 200 companies, resulting in an economic impact of approximately $162 million. Situated in East Alabama’s innovation hub, Galfa Earth enhances the center’s existing offerings, which include business incubation, workforce training, and small business support.

Beverly Price, chief workforce development officer for SAFE’s Silacauga Alliance, commented on the partnership, stating, “Earth is dedicated to equipping East Alabama with the necessary tools and training for economic stability and growth. Collaborating with Gener8Tor on Galfa Earth will empower individuals to transform their ideas into businesses, ultimately fostering job creation and entrepreneurship in rural areas.”

The Silakauga Chamber of Commerce sees this new program as a crucial driver for the long-term economic advancement and talent retention in the region. Laura Strickland, president and CEO of the Chamber, expressed excitement about the opportunity for community growth. “This program not only encourages people to start businesses but also helps them build fulfilling lives here. It’s a compelling message for future workers and their families.”

Gener8Tor supports a diverse array of global venture companies and accelerator networks, including startups and other professionals. The organization collaborates with businesses, governments, universities, and nonprofits, connecting over 41 communities across 22 states and two countries. Gener8Tor was recognized by Fast Company as one of the top workplaces for innovators in 2021 and 2022, and it was awarded the 2022 Global Venture Capital Company of the Year by the International Trade Council.
