Apache Junction, Arizona (3TV/CBS 5) — Rescue teams have been busy at Apache Junction, with streets flooded after heavy monsoon rains hit the area on Thursday. Firefighters, police, and the Pinal County Sheriff’s Deputy East called him to the Valley City to rescue his five men. Apache Junction Police rescued a woman from her SUV, which was swept away near Cortez Road and Tepee Street. Another person was rescued in the Geronimo Road and Broadway Avenue area, but details about it are still vague.
A driver was stranded on Tepee Street and Vista Road and a rescue team was called out to help him. However, firefighters said the driver was able to evacuate safely on his own. Another was rescued on his Fourth Avenue and Tomahawk Road. Additionally, flooding near Broadway Avenue and Tomahawk Road left a woman trapped in her home. Her rescue team gave her her life jacket and, using her crew of four and ropes, took her through the flooded area to her safety. No injuries have been reported so far.

Steve Campbell said he found a different way home after seeing his truck stranded in flood waters. But when he got to Broadway and Goldfield, he was in a bad situation again. At that point I put my foot on the pedal just like this wall of water was hitting my car and spinning sideways I’m out of here and “I was completely surrounded by another wall of water coming up from this side,” Campbell said.
Campbell said he was able to stay in his car and safely get out after the water receded. “This came out of nowhere. You can’t plan this,” he said.
Firefighters, police and the Pinal County Sheriff’s Deputy were called to the City of East Valley to rescue the five.
At Apache Junction, flooding has caused many roads to be closed, especially near the wash crossings.
ADOT reports that California Route 88 was closed in both directions just northeast of Apache Junction, and flooding was reported near Lost Dutchman State Park and Canyon Lake. Reopened shortly after 3:30pm. Roads were closed throughout the city of Apache Junction, but some have reopened.
