Butting chooses Alabama for its headquarters and first production site in the U.S.

Butting, a prominent stainless steel pipe manufacturer, has announced plans to set up its North American headquarters and a production facility in Baldwin County, as part of a substantial $61 million growth initiative.

The project is expected to unfold in two phases and create nearly 100 high-quality jobs, with salaries surpassing the county’s average.

Founded in 1777 and based in Knesebeck, Germany, Butting is globally recognized for its expertise in stainless steel pipe technology, as well as for manufactured components including clad pipes and cryogenic systems.

With existing operations in several countries, including Germany, Finland, Brazil, Canada, and China, the company is making its entry into the US market. The new facility will occupy over 50 acres in the established Roxley Industrial Corridor.

Adrian Rochofski, CEO and Managing Director of Butting USA, noted the decision to choose Baldwin County was influenced by the area’s skilled workforce, convenient transportation routes, and supportive business environment.

“We’re thrilled to broaden our presence in the US and establish Locksley as our North American base,” he said.

A formal announcement was made in Locksley today, attended by company representatives and local officials, including the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance and the Alabama Department of Commerce.

Alabama Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair emphasized that Butting’s decision to establish its North American operations in Baldwin County aligns with Alabama’s strengths in workforce development and infrastructure, promising high-paying jobs and long-term economic benefits.

Milestone Project

The first phase of the initiative will establish the North American headquarters along with engineering and manufacturing of high-quality stainless steel spools and cryogenic pipe systems.

The second phase aims to expand US production capabilities, introducing two advanced stainless steel pipe mills and broadening the cryogenic production portfolio to better meet the needs of major industrial sectors in the country.

Groundbreaking for the first phase is anticipated in the fall of 2025, with construction and job opportunities increasing in the interim.

This investment is significant for Baldwin County as it continues to position itself as a hub for advanced manufacturing and international business.

Re Johnson, executive vice president of the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance, remarked that this project reflects the collaborative efforts to enhance the community’s workforce and infrastructure.

He also noted that Butting’s choice highlights Baldwin County as a prime location for international firms in the US.

Welcoming Butting to Locksley, Mayor Richard Thiel expressed that this landmark project will create new opportunities and foster international recognition for the region.
