Byron Donald Discusses Florida’s Border Response on Fox News
Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donald appeared on Fox News on Tuesday to outline how Florida has established a “blueprint for other states” in managing the border crisis.
The state has recently opened the Alligator Alcatraz detention center, which is set to accommodate up to 5,000 undocumented immigrants facing deportation. During his segment on “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Donald highlighted the role of Homeland Security and the efforts of Republican Governor Ron DeSantis in making this detention center a reality.
“In Florida, we collaborated with Gov. DeSantis and his team to secure additional bed space,” Donald stated. “Their swift implementation was impressive, and it serves as a model for other states.”
States like Louisiana have indicated their intent to emulate Florida’s strategy by cooperating with Homeland Security to boost bed capacity and improve systems for handling illegal immigrants more efficiently.
“Any state, including Louisiana, can follow suit by securing the needed bed space for their communities,” he added.
Donald also remarked on former President Trump’s leadership in border security efforts, noting, “It’s quite remarkable. This was the president’s initiative, and he campaigned for closing border towns. The teams at the White House have also been very effective.”
In May, Trump announced plans to renovate Alcatraz, the notorious prison, expanding it significantly. He suggested that the facility on the island off San Francisco’s coast be “rebuilt, expanded, and reopened” to accommodate the country’s most dangerous criminals.
In June, Florida Attorney General James Usmierer recommended transforming an abandoned airport into a detention center named “Crocodile Alcatraz.” Trump visited Florida on Tuesday to tour the new facility and voiced support for DeSantis’ idea to appoint national security personnel as immigrant judges to expedite the court processes at the Alligator Alcatraz.
