Camp Verde teen admits to ‘killing a man’ while turning himself in to YCSO

On December 26, a 16-year-old boy came to the East Substation of the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and reported that he wanted to turn himself in on charges of “killing people.”

Suspects reported shooting a 62-year-old victim in a remote area of ​​Camp Verde around November 28 and leaving the man for dead in the wilderness.

After YCSO detectives were summoned to question the suspect, the suspect took them to a remote desert area off the Salt Mine Road, where they discovered the body of a man.

The teen said he contacted victims known to the suspect’s family.

The suspect wanted to confront the victim, so he asked the victim to pick him up at Camp Verde under the guise of a hunting trip.The two then drove to Salt Mine Road.

On Christmas Day, a family member entered the suspect’s bedroom and found the gun. When confronted, the suspect reportedly admitted to his family that he had killed the victim, and then turned himself in to his attorney the next day.

Victims’ names have not been released until they have been identified by next of kin.
