Something is constantly stirring up in Camp Verde. Just recently, this story is all about bullpen grills and watering holes.
It’s the opening day in mid-February, and owner Justin Chambers, a real estate agent and broker, runs the show, bursting with enthusiasm and infectious energy.
“My wife and I moved from Kingman to Camp Verde in 2018. Our goal was to retire here when we were older, but we decided to move in a different direction. We rethinked and purchased the historic Wingfield Plaza. ”
The Wingfield Plaza is located in downtown camp and is one of the oldest commercial buildings in the area. Its simple structure and Western character are great reminders of the early 1800s. There has been a restaurant on the east side of the building for several years.
“When the previous restaurant closed, I thought this was something I could do because a lot of locals were used to having a restaurant there,” Chambers said. “I hired staff of 28 key employees who are extremely talented and have worked in the industry for many years. They do everything they need to do this job. I’m very proud of them.”
Without any experience in a restaurant, Chambers opened bullpen grills and watering holes. So far, they have been an attractive customer who has been eating delicious food in Western-themed eateries.
“It was a great food and what I really liked was that there were healthy options. I had a salad and my husband had a burger and fries. We took my stepmother for her birthday. “These are the most important aspects of the world,” said Shailey Hoffman, a speech pathologist at Verde Valley Medical Center.
Chambers was born in Kingman and attended university at Northern Arizona University (NAU) where he studied business management. When he learned about real estate, he was pursuing a career as a photographer at a news station.
“I was in sales class and there was a guest speaker who stated how much she earned as a real estate agent. I knew I was pursuing the wrong field, so I worked towards my real estate license and my mother got her at the same time. ” Chambers has been working in real estate since he was 21 years old.
“I’ve worked with Justin since 2005,” said Michele Cheney, associate real estate broker at Camp Verde. “He’s fine, he works with him and is always a great guy on the go! He’s not afraid to get his hands dirty. You might see him wash and vacuum dishes. If you need to do something, he does it. Justin is also a great family man, dedicated to his wife and children. He’s going to do great things at his new restaurant.”
Created under the name Forty Miles on the walls outside the restaurant, along with a colorful, picturesque mural by famous Sedona artist Claudio Valdez, Chambers replaced all the appliances in the kitchen, including walk-in freezers and refrigerated storage.
“All new booths, tables, chairs, bar stools, lighting and corrugated can panels added to the spacious dining room. “I like playing pools and customers can play to the content of their hearts,” he said.
Hidden outside are outdoor smokers whose beef brisket and pork are roasted.
Bullpen Grill and Watering Hole Server Will Accomando is proud of its reviews. “The feedback was great. I’ve seen comments online about the food and service and they were great.”
“The food is top notch,” said local cowboy Frank Drake. “I was simmering roasted ribs and my wife had a New York strip steak. It was amazing.”
“Justin gives us the opportunity to give us our freedom in the kitchen,” said lead chef Joshua Senecal. “We play music and enjoy cooking. The menu shows us all my choices.” Senecal likes to call the bullpen grill and watering holes “gastropub.” This is a pub specializing in providing high quality food.
