Caroline Dobson Announces Candidacy for Alabama Secretary of State
Caroline Dobson declared her intention to run for Alabama Secretary of State in 2026 on Thursday. She’s a native of Beatrice, known for her expertise as a conservative lawyer and a current shareholder at Maynard Nexen, focusing on natural resources and commercial finance law in Montgomery.
“If elected as Secretary of State, I aim to reduce fees and simplify services for Alabama businesses. We need to ensure public security in our elections,” Dobson remarked. “As a mother, I realize that without secure elections, my daughter won’t grow up in the same country I did. Alabama has solid laws in place, but there are definitely areas that could benefit from better enforcement.”
Dobson commended Florida’s model for election crime and division, showing interest in adapting a similar framework for Alabama if she wins the election.
“Alabama is home to some of the finest law enforcement officers and prosecutors. I want to strengthen our ability to tackle election-related cases through a specialized team dedicated to investigating voter fraud allegations,” she added.
She acknowledged President Donald Trump’s commitment to prioritizing America, highlighting efforts to reform elections at the national level. “We need to address attempts by activists to use the courts to threaten the security of our elections,” Dobson stated.
Improving public services is also a primary focus for Dobson. “Small businesses, farmers, and truckers depend on efficient services to sustain their livelihoods. I am committed to ensuring that we can serve these needs effectively. Additionally, I plan to reduce corporate fees to help Alabama’s economy thrive,” she expressed.
Another point of emphasis was her willingness to collaborate with various leaders to enhance the business climate in Alabama. “Whether it’s legislators, cabinet members, or business leaders, we need to make our state the top choice for companies looking to relocate or expand. Innovation is key to creating a prosperous future for Alabama,” she noted.
Dobson, who grew up on a family farm in Monroe County, holds her bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a law degree from Baylor University. She previously ran in the Republican primary for Secretary of State and faced defeat by Rep. D-Prichard in the 2024 Congressional race for District 2.
