Cases of COVID-19 in Arizona surpass 2,400

Arizona reported nearly 200 new coronavirus cases and one more death overnight.

The Arizona Department of Health said there were 2,456 confirmed cases and 65 deaths in the state, up 187 and 1 respectively from Sunday.

Maricopa County has 1,433 confirmed cases and 31 deaths.

Pima and Navajo counties are the only other counties to report more than 200 cases.

On Friday, Gov. Doug Ducey and his office provided further guidance on essential services in Arizona. Barbershops, spas, salons and other businesses were forced to close as of 5 p.m. Saturday, April 4 as a result.

Additionally, local parks were expected to close facilities that could not ensure proper social distancing and proper hygiene. Hotels, condominiums, apartments and pools in city parks will also be ordered closed.

Last weekend, Doug Ducey announced that Arizona had signed a new contract with Honeywell to produce more than 6 million N95 masks for Arizona over the next 12 months.

According to the release, after the masks are produced, AZDHS will deliver the masks to the county health department and further distribute them to health, safety and emergency response workers.
