CBP releases video of fatal shooting in Arizona

TUCSON, Arizona — Last month, US Customs and Border Patrol released body-worn camera footage tracking southern Arizona. shooting of a US citizen.

Incident date March 14th About a mile north of Sasabe, a group of suspected illegal immigrants were seen entering a BMW after Border Patrol agents were notified by radio.

After observing the passage of the BMW along State Route 286, the agents attempted to stop the vehicle and a chase ensued.

Body-worn camera footage released this week shows how the chase ended. The agent can be seen running to his BMW, smashing one of his car windows with a baton and grabbing the driver.

The car appears to start backing up before the agent draws his weapon and fires at the car, attacking the driver. The car had six passengers, three of whom were in the trunk of the car.

CBP said one of the residents was a US citizen and the others were illegal immigrants.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident. CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility is also investigating the March 14 incident.

Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased driver, who was a US citizen.

CBP began piloting and implementing a body-worn camera program for employees in August 2021.
