Protecting the planet should be a daily aspiration, but Earth Day brings new inspiration to become a superhero of nature. Tucson hosts several community events. Here are some of them.
Plant a tree
Buy trees from the nursery and plant them on your property to be the coolest person in the neighborhood. Fruit trees are great, but so are native plants such as velvet he mesquite and Arizona he ash. This is a fun activity to do as a group. It also serves as a starting point for conversations with children about nature conservation.
Enjoy trails at one of the area’s many parks
Tucson and neighboring towns offer access to so many different trails with terrain of varying difficulty. Some state parks have paved trails that are wheelchair accessible. Visit Sabino Canyon, Saguaro National Park, or Catalina State Park this weekend and pick up trash on the trails. Always leave a natural space better than you found it. That is, no littering. Not even apple cores for snacks while hiking.
Earth Day at the Children’s Museum
Sponsored by the Tucson Children’s Museum, the Earth Day event is a free community event. They will give demonstrations about recycling, how to recycle at home, gardening, composting, etc. Local wildlife groups and other exhibitors will also attend the museum. The event runs Saturday from 9am to 1pm.
Visit Biosphere 2
Biosphere 2 is a scientific research facility dedicated to climate change and conservation research. It is open from 9am to 4pm and is located at 32540 S. Biosphere Rd. at Oracle.
Camp Cooper Earth Day Celebration
The Cooper Environmental Learning Center is hosting a free event on Earth Day at 5403 W. Trails End Rd. It runs from 4pm to 8pm and features live music by Kyklo. Staff from the Tucson Audubon Society, UA Compost Cats, and Camp Cooper will host hands-on activities. If you get hungry from all the fun, Midtown He’s Vegan He sells food at his deli. Their guest speaker is Dr. Earyn McGee.

You can borrow more than just books and movies with your Pima County Public Library Card. They also have a seed library containing a variety of natural pollinated and heirloom seeds. .
Redington Path Cleanup
Redington Pass friends Mardelle and the Wild Keeper have come together to host a cleanup at Remington Pass on Earth Day. They meet at the kiosk parking lot at 7:30am to check in and clean up until 11:00am Admission is free, but reserve a spot through Eventbrite’s event portal and fill our forest Attendees are encouraged to complete the Service Form. Cleaning starts at 8:00 am. The host will provide gloves and garbage bags. Start near the Lower Tank Verde Overflow Parking.
Go to the Tucson Botanical Gardens
The Tucson Botanical Gardens are open from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM all weekend. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy nature without leaving the city.
earth day at mission garden
Mission Garden hosts a day full of Earth Day programs. Beginning at 8:00 am, lessons on agricultural history, nature traditions, and scientific activities for all ages are offered. The event is free and donations are suggested at the garden entrance. Finish at noon.
Earth Day Event and Dark Sky Party
Oracle State Park hosts an Earth Day event and Dark Sky Party from 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM. Food is on sale from vendors his Malta Joe and The Sweet Coqui from 1pm to 7pm. The event is free, but there is a park admission fee of $7 per vehicle.
Do Your Own Independent Neighborhood Cleanup
No need to go on long hikes to clean up. It’s just as fun to get your friends and family together and clean up your neighborhood’s trash yourself.

Of course, this planet is not only inhabited by humans. Various conservation groups are dedicated to serving monarch butterflies, monarch butterflies and other animals.
