PRESCOTT, Ariz. — One person was killed in a car crash involving a cement mixer truck near Prescott Wednesday afternoon.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said the crash involving three vehicles happened near the intersection of Williamson Valley Road and Pioneer Parkway.

A vehicle was stopped at a traffic light heading north on Pioneer Parkway when another vehicle attempted to pass in the right lane at the end of the lane. The two vehicles collided after the driver was forced to merge into the left lane, YCSO said.

The collision caused the second vehicle to spin into the southbound lanes, blocking the path of an oncoming cement truck. YCSO said the driver of the cement truck attempted to avoid the collision but ended up striking the vehicle, which then struck the guardrail.

The driver of the car that hit the mixer was taken to hospital in serious condition. His wife, who was in the car with him, died on the way there.

YCSO said it appears the driver of the cement mixer truck had no opportunity to avoid the fatal collision.
