Littlefield/Beaver Dam, Arizona — Officials said the driver, who was not careful while driving, collided with the semi-trailer at around 10:45 am on Saturday. The incident caused a temporary closure of Interstate 15 in the northbound lane near Mile Marker 8 in Arizona.
The incident occurred southwest of a bridge near Littlefield and Beaver Dam, which is currently under construction.
Sergeant Franklin Luttrell of the Arizona Department of Public Safety said an adult in a white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van “wasn’t paying attention” and crashed into the rear of a silver Mazda SUV, causing two lanes to cross. We joined one of the construction zones.
Luttrell said the force of the crash pushed the silver Mazda behind a red Mazda SUV and behind a semi-trailer truck.
“Somebody got hurt,” said Luttrell. “Those in the silver vehicle…several were injured and taken to a local hospital. The subject driving the white van was also taken.”
A Littlefield Fire Department ambulance transported five passengers in two vehicles from stable to critical condition to a nearby hospital.

The clash closed northbound I-15 for almost two hours. After that, the traffic jam continued even after one lane was opened.
Lutrell said no subpoena has been issued. An investigation is ongoing as some of the witnesses need to be interviewed.
Luttrell warned drivers to pay close attention to their surroundings and slow down when approaching construction zones.
The Mojave County Sheriff’s Office, Littlefield Fire/EMS Department, and Arizona Department of Transportation also reported to the scene. This report is based on police statements and may not contain the full findings of the investigation.
