Alabama Women's FoundationThe organization, recognized as the state's leading philanthropic and advocacy organization for women, has announced keynote speakers for its upcoming event, “Clearing the Path: The Business Case for Child Care.” The event, sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, will be held on January 25th in Birmingham.
“Clearing the Path” serves as the Alabama Women’s Foundation’s annual platform to showcase groundbreaking research. It brings together policymakers, businesses, and community leaders to foster a dynamic discussion about the role of women in Alabama's future prosperity. The 2024 research report focuses on the significant impact child care has on Alabama's economy and families.
This year's event will be headlined by Suzanne P. Clark, President and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Clark has an extensive background in business and as a champion of free enterprise, he will share his insights on fostering a vibrant national economy. She will be followed by Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth who will speak and provide her perspective on Alabama's workforce requirements. Mr. Ainsworth will explore potential solutions to the state's low labor force participation rates and emphasize the importance of investing in quality, affordable and accessible child care.
Mr. Clark is a director on two corporate boards, a former business executive, and leads the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Her private sector experience informs her role at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world's largest business organization. Clark is known for her global perspective and her commitment to free enterprise, advocating for policies that promote business growth and opposing policies that hinder America's economic strength.
A family businessman and entrepreneur, Ainsworth has a diverse background as a small business owner, farmer, and youth pastor. Ainsworth, who co-founded his hunting lodge “Dream Ranch'' and owns multiple real estate and agricultural businesses, has strong ties to Alabama's business and agricultural sectors. Elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 2014, his work as an advocate for education and business led to his success in the 2018 lieutenant governor race and re-election in 2022.
Lillian Brand, vice president of external affairs for the Alabama Women's Foundation, emphasizes the important role of child care in workforce development. “As Alabama makes strides in job creation, the lack of quality child care remains a significant barrier, impacting economic development across the state,” she said. “With data-driven solutions, we are ready to collaborate with elected officials, businesses, and civic leaders to overcome these challenges and establish impactful public policy.”
