Champions of the World Series Declare Intent to Challenge Leading House Conservative

Mark Teixeira Announces Congressional Bid

Mark “Tex” Teixeira, a former MLB first baseman and World Series champion, revealed on Thursday that he is running for the Republican nomination in Texas’ 21st Congressional District.

In a post on X, Teixeira expressed his determination to “defend President [Donald] Trump,” emphasizing issues like family and personal freedom. This announcement comes after Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy stated on August 21 that he would not be seeking reelection.

“As a lifelong conservative who loves this country, I stand for Congress to fight for the principles that make Texas and America great,” Teixeira wrote. He believes that teamwork is essential for success, and he’s ready to support President Trump in safeguarding these values.

Teixeira was drafted fifth overall by the Texas Rangers in the 2001 MLB draft and made his debut with the team in 2003. He played with the Rangers until 2007 and spent his last seven seasons with the New York Yankees, following stints with the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Angels.

During his 14-year career, he earned three All-Star selections, five Gold Glove awards, and three Silver Slugger awards. Notably, he was part of the Yankees team that won the World Series in 2009.

Teixeira hit 409 home runs before retiring after the 2016 MLB season. Additionally, Kyle Sinclair, Vice-Chair of the Bexar County GOP, mentioned that he is considering a run for the same congressional seat.
