Both Imperial squads hit the floor with a local head-to-head between Central, Palo Verde
YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – After four grueling months, teams in the southwest of the desert have struggled for opportunities to play at key moments, and the time has come.
Four teams representing the Imperial Valley travel to San Diego for the CIF Title Game, while the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks travel to Phoenix for the 3A Semifinals.
Second-year head coaches Luke Stuckey and The Rocks had an impressive run, centered around a star player in their sophomore or junior year. But top-seeded Valley he will face Christian in the AIA 3A Final Four.
The day was also a special day for Imperial High School, which sent both the boys’ and girls’ teams out on Friday morning as the school cheered. At the end of the night, one school was able to go home with her two trophies.
The night is historic for the school, as the boys’ team has not reached a CIF title game since 1989 and the Lady Tigers have never won a Division I title.
Once the Imperial Boys Games are over, Otay Ranch High School will be the venue for the Division IV Women’s Title Game. Palo Verde and Central, the top two seeds in the division, go head-to-head not just for the championship, but for bragging rights in the Imperial Valley.
The Lady Spartans are back in the title game after winning their last title in 2014. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets are aiming to do what football teams did in the fall.
