Chargers’ Derwin James Jr. Hit With One-Game Suspension Without Pay For ‘Repeated Violations,’ But Is It Warranted?

Hmmm…I'm not sure I agree with the NFL on this one.

The league announcement On Monday, Los Angeles Chargers safety Darwin James Jr. He will be suspended for one game without pay for “repeated violations of playing rules designed to protect the health and safety of players.”

After reviewing video of Sunday's game between the Chargers and the Pittsburgh Steelers, the NFL ruled that James' collision with tight end Pat Friarmuth was a foul. NFL vice president of football operations John Runyan cited Rule 12.2.10(a) of the NFL's rules, which state: “A foul is committed when a player lowers his head and makes forceful helmet contact with an opposing player.” (Related: Colts' Anthony Richardson throws interception so bad it makes you wonder, “Who's paying this guy?”)

James' powerful hit was flagged by the umpire. Third Quarter In terms of action, he hit the ball through Friarmouth's body, centered on his helmet, and despite the impact, Friarmouth caught the ball.

“Continued disregard for NFL playing rules will not be tolerated. Repeated violations of rules designed to protect player safety will result in significant discipline, especially when those violations pose a significant risk of injury to opposing players,” Runyan wrote in the letter.

This is James' first suspension after being fined five times in six seasons, and he has appealed the decision.

And just like that, the NFL gets even weaker. Shocking.
