Charlamagne Dumps Cold Water On Theory Harris Facing ‘Heightened’ Scrutiny Due To Being ‘Black Woman’

Radio host Charlaman Tha God on Monday denied a co-star's theory that Vice President Kamala Harris is facing increased scrutiny because she is a “black woman.”

Harris became the Democratic nominee in July after President Joe Biden withdrew from the Democratic nomination and endorsed her, but the vice president received little support from voters in the primary. The Breakfast ClubAfter host Loren Lo Rosa suggested the vice president's race and gender were to blame, host John F. Kennedy argued that the process that led to Harris' nomination was the reason for the additional scrutiny. “Every time she puts something on the table, it's going to be scrutinized. They're going to take it apart, just like every time Donald Trump puts something on the table, it's going to be scrutinized and it's going to be taken apart,” Charmagne said. “J.D. Vance has been explaining this cat lady comment for a couple of weeks, you know what I'm saying? He should be.”

LoRosa agreed with everything Charmagne said, but asked, “Do you feel like it's being exaggerated and sensationalized a little bit because she's a woman and a black woman?”

“I think she was criticized more and sensationalized because when she started her campaign they said she had 90 days to win. People had to make a decision in 90 days. So she became the nominee a week or so after the debates were over. She wasn't officially the nominee, but everyone was saying she was going to be the front-runner,” Charmagne said. “She didn't give interviews for three weeks. Do you know why everyone made a big fuss about that? Because she had more than 90 days to win. Now she has more than 70 days to win. She's going to be under even more scrutiny because of the nature of her campaign and how she became the nominee.”

Harris has not given a sit-down interview or press conference since launching her campaign. Michael Tyler, communications director for the Harris-Waltz campaign, said in an August 14 interview that Vice President Harris plans to give interviews by the end of August.

Female voters told former CNN host Don Lemon in a video on Tuesday that they didn't want to vote for Harris because of her race or gender.

“I voted for Obama because he was black, I don't want to vote for her because she's the first black woman to run for president or win,” one woman told Lemon. “Things have to change, and now I'm voting for someone who's right for me, rather than voting for a black person or the first woman.”

CNN senior political analyst Nia Malika Henderson recently argued that Harris being a “Black woman” automatically makes her “weaker” in the race against President Donald Trump.
