Cher has revealed in her new memoir that she contemplated suicide during a lonely period in her marriage to Sonny Bono.

According to People magazine, she recalled how she felt during that terrifying moment.
“I felt dizzy with loneliness,” Cher said in her memoir.
“I realized how easy it is to step over the edge and just disappear,” she said.
“For a crazy few minutes, I couldn’t imagine any other option. I did this five or six times.”

According to People, Cher said her saving grace at that time was the thoughts of her loved ones, especially her children Chaz, her mother, and her sister.
According to her memoir, she was aware of how big an impact her actions had on themselves and others.
“Something like this might make people who respect me feel like it’s a viable solution,” she recalled thinking.
She realized that what she had been considering had serious implications and made a different decision.
“You don’t have to jump. I can leave him,” she said.
Cher met Bono when she was 16 and he was 17. They shot to stardom with the release of their hit song “I Got You Babe” and launched their own variety show, “Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour.”
Although the two officially married in 1969, Cher said their personal relationship was not as successful as their business. She claimed Bono was controlling and said she felt “trapped” in what she described as a “loveless marriage,” according to People magazine.
