YUMA, AZ (KYMA, KECY) – Chicanos Por La Causa hosted the 2nd Annual Heart Walk at Riverside Park. This event is in collaboration with the Phoenix Chapter of the American Heart Association.

This is the second time Yuma has hosted the Heartwalk as Phoenix was unable to host it due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But the Phoenix chapter visited the Yuma area on Saturday and had to make a choice. Either Yuma continues to host more Heartwalks, or Heartwalks return to Phoenix.

“They do it in Phoenix because it’s a bigger city and it’s more populated. They’ll come here to observe and see if they can continue to support our organization any further. We can get together and continue this walk-a-son, more often,” said Patricia Miranda, education specialist at Chicanos Por La Causa.

Other organizations sponsoring this event include Yuma International Airport, Starbucks, Living Easy Lifestyle and Eagles Fraternity.

For those who participate in the heart walk and donate, we will hold a lottery where you can win an iPad or a Bluetooth speaker.

However, this heart walk event is very personal for two heart attack survivors. Miranda’s husband Lawrence and her friend Raul Rodriguez.

“It is important to bring awareness to people and take care of their hearts. But hopefully you will take care of it,” Lawrence said.

Luckily, Lawrence has high hopes for his and Rodriguez’s respective futures. Hopefully, as God wills, we will last for years. “

At the same time, Miranda hopes that the Phoenix branch will consider continuing to stay close to Yuma’s heart.
