A child died Saturday in a sledding accident in Guilford County, North Carolina, authorities said.
The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) responded to a 911 call for a water rescue around 9:12 a.m., the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) said in a news release posted on Facebook. When authorities arrived, they found the child submerged in the water and he was immediately taken to a nearby hospital.
The boy, whose name and age were not released by authorities, “later died from injuries sustained during the incident,” the sheriff’s office said.
Three civilians and two first responders who helped with the rescue efforts were also taken to the hospital for medical examinations. Officials say preliminary information indicates the incident resulted from a sledding accident.
In addition to the GCSO, several local fire departments and Guilford County Emergency Services responded to the incident.

A 12-year-old boy died in a skiing accident at New Hampshire’s Cranmore Mountain Resort on January 2, CBS News. reported. The child collided with a tree while skiing and was left unconscious. He was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
He was taken to the base of the mountain and later taken to a local hospital, where he died, the newspaper reported.
“On behalf of Cranmore Mountain Resort, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. The entire Cranmore family mourns this tragic loss,” a resort spokesperson told CBS News.
“On behalf of the Conway Police Department and all of those who assisted in the initial response, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the 12-year-old boy,” Conway Police Chief Christopher Mattei said in a statement. Exit.
