Chino Valley Student Finds Culinary Love Through Family and Education

Learning from her mother and grandmother and developing a love of cooking from an early age, Jacqueline Ocampo Guarda has become an all-star on TV shows. Chino Valley High School Culinary Department.

I work in the largest commercial kitchen in Yavapai County, located within CVHS. Career in technical education (CTE) Ocampo Bureau America’s Family, Career and Community Leaders (FCCLA) Member of the Culinary Arts Department and has won high honors in local and state competitions.

A CVHS senior, she was not only in the kitchen during her four years as a cougar, she was also a multisport athlete, including track and field and cross-country.

“I made a lot of friends through track and cross-country,” says Ocampo. “I’ve made friends all over the state – teachers, coaches, teammates, and even teams I’ve played against.”

Ocampo also learned a lot about his strengths and limitations through his sports and cooking endeavors, adding that he is looking for ways to improve physically in both competition and cooking.

Ocampo finds cooking to be a fun and creative expression and brings his culinary skills to the team. National Society for the Honor of the Arts. While most people might think of painting, sculpture, and photography as expressive art forms, Ocampo uses pots, pans, and recipes to create edible art, especially in the area of ​​baking.

“I love creating my own art and sharing it with the whole community,” says Ocampo. “For me? I express my art through cooking, baking and decorating. For me, making delicious cupcakes is just creating art.”

Ocampo is also heavily involved in the CVHS Unified Sports Program, a partnership with Special Olympics, working with students in CVHS special needs classes.

“This is a great opportunity to collaborate and participate with all the students at our school,” says Ocampo. “It’s a great club. You get the chance to meet great people and compete.”

Ocampo hopes to continue his culinary arts education and realize his dream of one day opening his own restaurant.

“My love of cooking is due to my mother and grandmother who always stood in the kitchen and taught me,” Ocampo explained, adding that baking was not their focus. “I’m the first person in my family to really get interested in baking. I want to open a coffee shop where I can display my breads and pastries. Let’s create a really nice place where people can come, relax and enjoy what I’ve baked.”
