Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy Opposes Trump’s “Big and Beautiful Bill”
On Tuesday, Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy expressed his inability to support President Donald Trump’s proposed legislation, which he described as “big and beautiful.”
During an appearance on “The Jesse Kelly Show,” Roy highlighted concerns that the current version of the bill would exacerbate the deficit, allocate funds for illegal immigrant Medicare, finance child sex changes with taxpayer money, and impose limits on Planned Parenthood for a year. He indicated that he’s not alone in his stance, noting that other Republicans share similar reservations about the bill as it stands.
“The swamp is going to be a swamp, and if the administration is willing to lean on everyone and say, ‘end this madness’, then why should I vote for this bill?” Roy remarked. “I want tax cuts and secure borders, but all this spending doesn’t sit well with me.”
The Senate narrowly passed the legislation with a 51-50 vote, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote. However, Roy believes the bill will struggle to pass in the House without significant amendments.
“I think many House Republicans are hesitant to support this, myself included,” he said. “As I’m reviewing the bill, I keep questioning, ‘Are we really going to increase the deficit? Are we going to take on more debt because of this?'”
Notably, Republican senators including Rand Paul from Kentucky and Susan Collins from Maine voted against the legislation. Additionally, Tillis announced his retirement just hours after Trump threatened to support a potential challenger due to his opposition to this bill.
Meanwhile, White House spokesman Caroline Leavitt revealed plans for a challenge against Kentucky Republican Rep. Warren Davidson, following Trump’s disapproval of the original June version of the bill.
