Choosing Zohran Mamdani as NYC Mayor Could Lead to a Major Departure of Police, Increasing Crime Like in ‘Gotham City,’ According to Officers

Concerns Grow Over NYC Public Safety Under Zohran Mamdani

Experts and seasoned officials have raised alarms about public safety in New York City, particularly under the leadership of socialist Zohran Mamdani. There have been notable issues, including rising crime rates and significant departures from the NYPD, according to sources from The New York Post.

Despite a recent shift in his campaign messaging, Mamdani has reiterated his stance against “refunding the police” or reducing the division. Critics argue that this is merely a strategy to sway undecided voters. A report highlights these concerns.

Scott Munroe from the NYPD Detective Foundation Association expressed anxiety about the city’s safety. He remarked, “I’m asleep and worried about the phone ringing.” He further warned that appointing leaders like Mamdani could jeopardize officer safety and hinder recruitment efforts.

There are underlying fears within the NYPD about resignations, particularly if Mayor Eric Adams or GOP candidate Curtis Swawa do not intervene. A veteran officer shared a stark warning: “If he wins, I’ll quit.” It’s unusual, they noted, for New York City to even consider voting for someone like Mamdani.

Critics also challenged Mamdani’s views on the NYPD, with a 20-year veteran labeling his perspective as misinformed. “This guy thinks the whole NYPD is racist. I think the department is more diverse now than before. He’s totally ignorant.”

Mamdani envisions a new model for community safety, suggesting a shift in 911 responses to prioritize mental health teams. However, Swawa criticized this idea, arguing that police need to actively engage in preventing crime—not transitioning into social workers.

Amidst these discussions, the NYPD has reported a decline in major crimes since 2019. An officer pointed out the contradiction in wanting police protection while simultaneously undermining the force. “It’s hypocrisy to accept police protection while disliking the NYPD,” they stated.

Democratic consultant Hank Schenkopf also dismissed Mamdani’s promises as contradictory, suggesting that his stance on police funding lacks sincerity.
