Cincinnati Reds Fire David Bell After Six Seasons At Helm

At the midpoint of the 2023 season, Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell Contract extension His contract with the franchise expired but despite that, the Reds made the decision to fire their captain on Sunday after a season that failed to live up to expectations and ultimately ended with them missing the playoffs.

Take over management Provisional Standards Bench coach Freddy Benavidez will serve in his role for Cincinnati's remaining five games, which will be in Cleveland and Chicago. The Reds entered the 2024 season with high hopes of making the postseason, but were inconsistent and underwhelming throughout the season. They are currently 76-81 and in fourth place in the National League Central.

“David has brought much-needed stability to our clubhouse over the past few seasons,” president of baseball operations Nick Krall said in an official release. “We felt a change was necessary to move our major league team forward. We have not had the success we hoped for and need to begin to focus on 2025.”

This is a classic example of how quickly life can move on. Getting terminated one year into a contract extension is awful.
