Meeting Highlights from Nogales Housing Authority
A recent gathering of the Nogales Housing Authority emphasized a significant initiative aimed at bolstering support for local residents. One main point of focus was the ongoing efforts of Circles of Peace, which invests over $90,000 annually in community programming, staffing, and resources. This funding facilitates a range of activities that foster resilience and a sense of community among residents.
Circles of Peace is dedicated to engaging the community through quarterly listening sessions, ensuring that the voices of locals play a role in shaping the program. In the past few months, the organization has offered services to 656 young people, 849 adults, and 732 seniors, fostering healing and personal growth. The center has become a vital space for youth, who have embraced its purpose by creating areas for mindfulness, computer use, and relaxation.
The meeting also underscored the significance of data collection in evaluating the effectiveness of the programs. By using tools such as the Bridal Resilience Scale, Circles of Peace can monitor participants’ development and modify services to address emerging needs. This data-informed strategy helps ensure that the program is both intentional and impactful.
Beyond the youth initiatives, the center has broadened its services to include support groups tailored for women and men, catering to varying community needs. The recent establishment of male support groups showcases a commitment to inclusion, particularly concerning challenges encountered within various groups.
Looking to the future, Circles of Peace plans to extend its outreach by collaborating with workplaces and organizations like Mariposa to provide job training and health services. These partnerships aim to form a robust support network for residents, including vulnerable populations like veterans and individuals experiencing homelessness.
The conference highlighted the vital role of community collaboration in fostering resilience in Nogales. As local leaders conveyed their gratitude for ongoing efforts, it became clear that the initiatives not only seek to enhance individual lives but also to strengthen the fabric of the entire community. As the Nogales Housing Authority continues to respond to the changing needs of our neighborhoods, the commitment to cultivating a supportive environment for all residents remains a top priority.
Nogales Housing Authority will shift from regular sessions. Meetings are scheduled for July 2, 2025, and July 3, 2025.
