Safford City Council will consider approval of the city’s provisional budget for 2023-2024 at its regular session on 8 May 2023. In the interim budget, the city recommends keeping the primary property tax rate the same as before. 0.5135% for the last four years. Keeping the tax rate the same will generate more revenue due to the increased assessed property value completed by the county assessor. State law dictates that communities hold truth in tax hearings in this case.
The City of Safford will host a mandatory truth in taxation hearing on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 6:00 pm in the Safford Library Program Room, 808 South 7.th Safford Avenue. At this same meeting, the City of Safford will also hold his 2023-2024 budget and tax hearings.

Pursuant to Section 42-17107, Arizona Revised Law, the City of Safford is notifying property taxpayers of the City of Safford’s intention to increase primary property taxes collected above last year’s levels. The City of Safford is proposing to raise primary property taxes by $14,116 or 4.86%.
For example, a proposed tax increase would result in a major property tax of $51.35 (total of proposed taxes including the tax increase) on a $100,000 house in the City of Safford. Without the proposed tax increase, the total taxes owed on a $100,000 home would be $48.97.
This proposed increase excludes primary property tax increases due to new construction. This increase also does not include changes that may result from property tax levies on voter-approved bonded debt or budget and tax overrides.
