Chief Reynoso has been acting police chief since October 2023.
SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Mayor Nieves Riedel and City Council members have appointed Nigel Reynoso as Police Chief.
The City of San Luis announced that Reynoso has been appointed after emerging as the best candidate to fill the vacancy left by the former police chief.
San Luis City Councilman Matias Rosales shares why he believes Reynoso is the right person for the job.
“I've always seen him get along well with all the employees at the police department, fire department or whatever department. So his interaction as a team player has always been there and has helped him get to where he is now. I think you know he's grown up.'He's going to be chief of police and I know he's well respected by the department and his colleagues,'' Rosales said.
Chief Reynoso joined the San Luis Police Department in 2005 and has led all departments.
Prior to enlisting, he served in the United States Marine Corps for eight years and was honorably discharged as a sergeant.
“After an extensive process, it was determined that Chief Renzo is the best person to serve in the role of San Luis Police Chief,” said Mayor Nieves Riedel. “With his years of service, experience and education, I am confident that Chief Reynoso has the experience necessary to lead our police department during this critical time.”
“It is an honor and a blessing to have the opportunity to continue to lead the dedicated women and men of this department,” said Chief Nigel Reynoso. “I know I have a talented team behind me who are ready to work hard,” he added.
Chief Reynoso would like to provide additional support to the San Luis Police Department.
“The city is growing a lot and we need additional staffing to make sure we can provide the services that the community needs. That's one of the big challenges and we're going to start addressing staffing.” Secretary Reynoso said.
