City of Yuma announces Mayor’s new Chief of Staff

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – Kathy Moon has been appointed as the Mayor’s new Chief of Staff.

Moon has been with the City of Yuma since 2012, serving as Executive Assistant to the Mayor and City Council, succeeding Arlene Garabiz.

Prior to working in the city, he spent more than six years in the Yuma First School District, serving as Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources Technician, and 4th Avenue Middle School Secretary.

Mr. Moon has also served as Deputy Clerk of the Pima County Superior Court.

According to the city of Yuma, Moon is from Yuma and graduated from Kofa High School. He also holds an Associate of Arts and Sciences degree in Court Reporting from Parkes College School of Business.

“I am honored to have been given the opportunity to continue to serve and assist Mayor Nichols in my new role as Chief of Staff and build a team that supports the Council,” Moon shared.

As chief of staff, President Moon oversees the mayor and council office staff and serves as assistant mayor.

She plans, coordinates, monitors, conducts research on special programs and projects, works with voters, and produces and distributes public information on behalf of the Mayor and Council.

Mayor Douglas Nichols said, “We are excited to have Kathy bring her talents and experience to our day-to-day operations, especially in addressing everything from policy to events.
