City Organizes Safety Precautions and POW MIA Ceremony at Gordo Park

A recent meeting held on September 3, 2025, in Nogales brought attention to important steps aimed at enhancing community safety and engagement, tackling both urgent issues and future events that benefit residents.

One major topic discussed was the installation of security cameras in various neighborhoods. This initiative follows reports of damage from the previous year and is focused on creating safer public spaces for everyone.

In addition, the city is collaborating with the Foreign Wars Veterans (VFWs) and the American Legion to prepare for the Paumia ceremony, set for September 19 at 10 a.m. in Gordo Park. This event will honor veterans and reinforce the city’s dedication to building a strong community spirit.

Another key point was the submission of an $80,000 grant application to finalize the Mori Street arch project. This enhancement is anticipated to beautify the area and improve access for pedestrians, with hopes for swift approval of the funding.

As the holiday season approaches, city officials also discussed expanding Santa Claus’s time in the park starting December 1. This initiative aims to let children interact with Santa. They are also looking into nearby parking options to facilitate visitor access during this busy time.

These discussions mirror the city’s ongoing commitment to improve safety, honor community values, and enhance the quality of life for Nogales residents. As these plans progress, they are dedicated to fostering a deeper sense of community connectivity.
