City officials sued the judge, alleging that Judge Mathis pointed a gun at them and threatened to shoot them during an argument in July 2023.
Defendant Ricardo Acosta claimed he was working for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power outside Judge Mattis’ residence when the judge began abusing him. TMZ. He said in the lawsuit that when Mathis took Acosta’s car out of the garage, he was upset about where the dump trunk was parked.
According to TMZ, Acosta claimed that Mathis got out of the car and began yelling profanities at him, at one point yelling at Acosta to “get that damn truck out of the way.” The situation escalated, and Acosta claimed Mathis pointed a gun at him and threatened to shoot him.

According to TMZ, Acosta is suing the famous judge for assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress and is seeking damages.
Acosta said in his lawsuit that Mathis was in the back of the dump truck at one point and that he directed him to leave his position for his own safety. He claimed that because he was parked on a slope, he was worried that the tuck would roll backwards when he put it in gear. According to TMZ, he went on to claim that Mathis started challenging him, saying, “I wasn’t trying to assault him or run him over and see what would happen.”
City officials allege Mathis said, “I can show you something,” and then ran into the home. Acosta allegedly returned with a gun and said, “I’m going to rip the cap off…” According to TMZ: Do You Want Me?
Acosta claimed Mathis once again threatened to “rip his hat off,” then got back in his car and drove away.

Mattis’ attorney, Anahita Sedagatfal, told TMZ, “This unfiled complaint, conveniently disseminated to the public, is an attempt by Mr. Acosta to extort him in order to obtain financial benefit from my client, Judge Mattis. This is a last resort.” TMZ reported that Mr. Acosta’s account of the ‘facts’ do not correspond in any way to what actually happened during the incident, which occurred over a year ago.
She continued, “The report that Mr. Acosta’s superiors submitted to the LAPD contained many obvious falsehoods, and at the same time Judge Mattis feared that Mr. Acosta and his family’s safety would be threatened.” I also acknowledged that.” His associates and the false imprisonment they inflicted on Judge Mattis on private property. ”

“If Mr. Acosta pursues this action, we will not only vigorously defend this action, but also file cross-claims for Mr. Acosta’s misconduct and repeated defamation of my client.” she concluded.
