Tommy Tuberville to Run for Alabama Governor in 2026
Senator Tommy Tuberville is set to announce his candidacy for the Governor of Alabama in 2026 during an upcoming event hosted by Growthpack’s club in Auburn next Tuesday.
The Club for Growth PAC, which gave Tuberville a lifetime rating of 93%, has previously backed him during his Senate campaign in 2020. They noted their endorsement in a recent statement.
During the 2020 Senate race, the Club for Growth was instrumental in Tuberville’s success. Initially, the organization supported Jeff Sessions. However, after gaining the backing of former President Donald Trump, their support shifted to Tuberville.
“Coach Tuberville embodies a pragmatic approach to policy, particularly advocating for fiscal responsibility, educational freedom, and tax reductions,” one spokesperson emphasized. “We are confident in his ability to lead Alabama.”
According to reports from a conservative political action committee, Club for Growth Action has invested around $163 million into various races across the country, achieving a success rate of 77.3% in those contests.
Senator Tuberville (R-Auburn) is expected to detail his governor campaign plans in a public address next Tuesday.
In another development, Lt. Colonel Ainsworth, who had been viewed as a potential contender against Tuberville, announced on Wednesday morning that he would not pursue the gubernatorial race in 2026.
This decision will also impact the upcoming U.S. Senate seat election in Alabama, which opens up in 2026. Both Republican primary elections are scheduled for May 19, 2026.
