CNN’s former Mr. Potato Head, none other than Brian Stelter, delivers another of his signature badass takes.

Stelter joined X to support the Staten Island Advance’s endorsement of Kamala Harris. That’s exactly the “tough love” New York City’s most Trumpian borough needs to hear, he wrote in a lengthy thread. Apparently he’s proud that his local newspaper finally set the record straight to its loyal readers that President Trump was “lying.”

Of New York City’s five boroughs, Staten Island is Trump’s home. But today, the borough’s newspaper, the Staten Island Advance, gave its readers “enthusiastic” support for Harris, calling her “the only choice for 2024” and giving readers some tough love 🧵

The point here is to make this all seem like a coming to Jesus moment for the little red island. In 2020, Staten Islanders were overwhelmingly more Trump supporters than in 2016. They’re working class people from New York City, you’ve never heard of them, but there aren’t that many of them left. Stelter knows they’re not going to listen to their newspaper, not the fancy, flashy New York Times. This is a message worth hearing. (Click here to watch Kamala cleaning)

Obviously, that’s self-congratulatory nonsense. On the one hand, it portrays the people of Staten Island as lost, folkloric rubes. The other side champions the power of journalism and other things as the only thing that can ultimately fix things.

The truth is, this is just noise and it doesn’t matter to Staten Islanders at all. This is not an empathetic plea, but another journalistic bullying campaign against readers. Despite Shelter’s charm, readers know this and have learned to ignore it.

Another white-collar institution selling itself out and scolding the people it’s supposed to represent?! No way, this has never happened before. Trump is already a really good cook.

Mr. Stelter’s inability to understand how absurd he sounds is precisely the problem with today’s media. He still thinks he has the right to ridicule those who disagree with him. he doesn’t. But he might as well keep on ranting. The more people learn how to eliminate abusers like his, the better.
