CNN’s Scott Jennings Says Kamala Harris Is Dodging Questions To Conceal Her Liberal Record

CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings said Friday that Vice President Kamala Harris is avoiding questions from the press to hide her liberal record.

Harris has not held a press conference or given an interview since launching her 2024 presidential campaign on July 21, the day President Joe Biden dropped out of the race. Jennings told CNN News Central that Harris plans to campaign on being an alternative to Republican nominee Donald Trump, rather than on a policy agenda.

“[The Harris campaign does not] “They don't want to answer questions. I mean, that's a lot of talking. That's the bottom line,” Jennings said. “They don't want her to sit down and answer questions. And if you watch her current TV hits and you don't know anything, if you just landed here in a spaceship and you don't know anything, you'd think she's running as a Republican. I mean, she's running while saying she's putting criminals in prison and taking a hard line on the border. [Tim] “Walz is here saying he's going to protect the Second Amendment. They may think they're running as Republicans, but the reality is that their record is far left of center and well outside the political mainstream.”

“The bottom line is they don't want to address any policy issues. This campaign is just an avatar, a vehicle to stop Trump. Their main objective is to not be called Donald Trump to be president,” Jennings continued. “That's their policy, but I don't think it's enough. But we'll see if she can get it done. This is a short campaign.”

Jennings denied the Harris campaign's accusation that Trump has been “too lazy” on the campaign trail, claiming that Harris can't even speak to reporters. (Related article: Sparks fly as CNN panel discusses Kamala Harris' lack of media appearances)

“[Trump] “They are campaigning. If you want to attack Trump for being lazy in the campaign because he's not holding rallies in battleground states, you can also attack Kamala Harris for being too inept at holding press conferences and answering questions about her career and the positions she took as vice president and when she was running for president (which she says, through an anonymous spokesperson, is now changing). So the campaign will be playing up that about who is actually doing what is needed to assure the American people that he will be a good president for the next four years,” Jennings said.

Trump held an unexpected news conference at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday to answer questions about his campaign and policy positions. The former president announced he had agreed to three debates in September to be hosted by ABC News, NBC News and Fox News.

The Trump campaign's current strategy is to end Harris' honeymoon period by forcing her to make unscripted remarks in front of the press and voters. On Wednesday, Trump told his “Fox & Friends” co-hosts that Harris “will be exposed” in the upcoming debate, suggesting that she was trying to pull out of the debate.

On July 30, Harris challenged Trump to a debate at a campaign event in Atlanta, Georgia, telling the former president, ” [her] face.”
